Enamelware

Enamel, which can roughly be described as a glass and metal compound baked at a high temperature, has a history dating back to the 5th century before Christ. (This technique was initially used in sculptures, and then evolved so that almost all personal belongings were coated with enamel, and then lost its popularity with industrialization.) Enameling developed rapidly in Turkey in the 1930s, but today, as is the case with most handicrafts, it is on the verge of extinction. This collection was created for Mesele by an enamel master who has been working with this craft for 37 years; they are 100% recyclable, can be used in the oven, freezer, and are also dishwasher safe. These enamelware products can be used for many years, combining the health benefits of glass with the resilience of metal. The edges feature motifs and are fired after these patterns have been hand-painted. Each product is unique with the distinctions on its surface due to the nature of the hand made processes.
