In Karelia (in Northern Finland, the land which border’s Russia’s North Pole territory) the Sielulintu is seen as a mythological figure. In the realm of newborn babies and of the dead, it is known as a special bird which carries the soul. Representing good luck and happiness, it is believed to protect people. The Sielulintu is often placed next to the bed of those who are considered to be vulnerable.
