The Matter of the Sun in Hittites
There are two views that are accepted about the Sun Disc, or Sittaris, which actually belonged to the Hattians but was also used by the Hittites, with a history of 4250 years. The first of these views is a special calendar (consisting of eight right triangles and four squares in a 12-section hoop) and the other is a symbol with a sacred meaning (it is argued that the circle in the center symbolizes the concepts such as the sun and the figures on the top symbolize reproduction, proliferation, and fertility). The importance of the sun, which was accepted as a metaphor for the energy of life in the Hittites, is also emphasized by the cities belonging to Arinna, the mother and sun goddess, and the Hittite king with the nickname Utu, "my sun".
